Web Competencies For Instructional Designers
In the Learned Man! site, the authors respond to a post titled, “Competencies for Web+ISD” from Jay Cross. He says that most Instructional Designers earned their credentials before “blogs, RSS, podcasts, microcontent, wikis, Google, and mash-ups” were used. As someone trying to get their credentials and entering the field of Instructional Design, this posting interested me. What do I really need to know, and how quickly is the field changing?
In a related post by Eric Tremblay, he lists skills he feels Instructional Designers need to stay successful.

They include gaining experience on multidisciplinary teams, thinking outside the box, engaging in life-long learning, and gaining formal project management experience.
With my limited experience in the field, I’m not a good judge if he knows what he is talking about. I am trying to figure out how I’m going to tell my family that I won’t really be done with school next August and that they need to understand I’ll probably take classes now and then to improve my skills and try to stay on top of new technology. Maybe I’ll wait a while on that.

You may be new to the field, but you’re asking the right questions and looking at good resources!
Competencies for instructional designers are constantly evolving as the field changes, and as the tools and theories evolve. Team collaboration and leadership are essentials. Use of Web 2.0 technologies is becoming more important every day. Who knows where we’ll be by the time you finish your graduate program?

I have always been taught that if you ever stop learning you will be left behind. I would say that Mr. Tremblayhas IS (sorry)right. Good choice of site.
