Saturday Coffee
In the last several weeks, I’ve neglected my blog. I was never very good at keeping a journal and I have the same problem with keeping my blog updated.
One topic that has interested me for years is motivation. Having a son who has inconsistent school performance, is disinterested in almost everything or has intense interest that fades quickly, I’ve read a lot of articles, books, and done searches on the web to try to get some insight.
This week I found a book that has some interesting ideas about motivation and the underachieving student. I’m trying to read the book while working on several class projects, finishing a sweater I started over a year ago, and trying to get a baby sweater done, so it’s going slower than I’d like. From what I’ve read so far, this book be worthwhile for teachers and parents who have bright children/students who struggle in school.
One of the questions I’ve already had is how do underachieving students do with on-line instruction and what strategies can be used in an online format with the underachiever.
A worthwhile game
For those of you frantically working on project and papers, I found a site that allows you to take a break and do something worthwhile at the same time. Check out http://www.freerice.com/. For each word you get right, 10 grains of rice is donated to the United Nations World Food Program. Enjoy!

Asking for Input
I am working (somewhat slowly) on a project for another class developing a short guide for beginning wordpress.com users. I decided on this project because I was frustrated when I set up my blog in wordpress. What I am looking for is input on what tasks do new users need to know to set up a blog in wordpress. What tasks frustrated you when you were a new user of wordpress? Is there a subject in the help section that you thought wordpress didn’t address very well?
I found several tutorials for wordpress that didn’t help me very much. Did you find any tutorials that helped you through some of the beginning tasks? I don’t want to duplicate something that is already done and I could use good examples and develop something that complements them.
Thanks for your help!
Debra
